Your consumer unit — the fuse board — is the heart of a home’s electrics. If yours still uses old rewireable fuses or lacks RCD protection, an upgrade is one of the most worthwhile safety improvements you can make.

Common warning signs

Look for an old board with ceramic fuse holders, a lack of RCD protection, circuits that trip for no obvious reason, or any sign of heat damage around the board. Any of these is worth a professional look.

What a modern board adds

A modern board uses individual RCBOs, so a fault on one circuit no longer takes out the whole house. It brings the installation up to the current wiring regulations and is notified to building control where required.

What’s involved

Most replacements are a single day’s work, including testing the existing circuits and issuing the correct certificate. We will always flag any pre-existing faults before we start.
